Metafilter linked to the UCLA Library Digital Collection called Changing Times: Los Angeles in Photographs, 1920-1990.
I submit to the fact that Orange County is a suburb of Los Angeles, and therefore it is unsurprising that there are so many Orange County locations featured in the archive.
For example, here is Indira Ghandi and J.Nehru hanging out in Anaheim in 1961and here is a vaguely racist brand stunt from a Valencia Orange Show in 1931.
Best of all is Richard Nixon with Nancy Reagan in Anaheim, California in 1970.
That is my personal favorite. I really do not know why.
Here is a year old YouTube video of the alleged second ever public performance of "All I Need" by Radiohead at Greek Theater in Berkeley.
I paid 5 dollars. I am cheap. I appreciate it Radiohead - I'll buy it at a Best Buy in March, 2008.
I promise.
This sounds like I feel right now. God I love California.
I moved from OC to LA. I never thought I'd do that - I always thought it would be New York before Los Angeles. I really didn't expect to leave Orange County - yet it is exile once again for me. So long OC? But there is so much more to do in Los Angeles.
- On Thursday I unwittingly followed the recommendations of the Daily Candy and an excellent evening at Happi Songs Asian Tavern which is precisely what it says it is. They were friendly and eager to please, they asked me I was Happi and I was until they ran out beer.
- On Saturday I caught Neil Gaiman's The Tragical Comedy or Comical Tragedy of Mr. Punch and enjoyed it. The play is a production of the Rogue Artists Ensemble and is a multi-media experience utilizing puppets, video and other non-traditional and highly innovative staging techniques to tell a non-linear story based on a graphic novel. It is visually stunning. I sat next to LAist's Zach Behrens who tells me that theatre in Los Angeles is good. We shall see.
